Our Learning

Waiau Pa learners are

‘Powerful Learners’.

Powerful Learners:

  • Make Connections between their past experiences and knowledge and be able to transfer this to new learning.
  • Ask Questions to clarify understanding and to think creatively about solving problems.
  • Take Risks with their learning to move out of their comfort zone.
  • Reflect on what has worked and how we can do it better.
  • Persevere, keep trying in all situations.

The priorities for Waiau Pa are;

Numeracy

To explore relationships in quantities, space, and data and express these relationships in ways that helps them to make sense of the world around them.

Literacy

Reading, Writing, Oral Language

Literacy in English gives students access to the understanding, knowledge and skills they need to participate in their environment and the wider world. To be successful participants they need to be effective oral, written and visual communicators who are able to think critically and in depth.

Deep Learning

A deep understanding about the world around them will be gained through meaningful, authentic and engaging concepts.

Thinking Creatively

Children will be given experiences to develop and display their creativity of thought and actions throughout all areas of learning.

Technology

To develop a broad technological understanding that will equip them to participate in a global society, our Y7&8 students attend technology classes at Rosehill Intermediate.

They participate in:

  • Hard Materials Technology
  • Soft Materials Technology
  • Electronics / Graphics
  • Foods Technology
